Balian- Bali's best kept secret
Embark upon a journey along the winding course of the sacred Balian river, it will guide you through unknown lands and hidden secrets, passing by scenes of majestic beauty and wildness, eventually bringing you to its mouth, where it meets with the wide and wild Java sea.
Your day begins with pick up from your preferred location.
We are beginning our journey in a traditional Balinese compound located just outside the quaint village of Pupuan, which is situated at the base of the majestic Batu Karu mountain range.
After making sure that our helmets and gloves were firmly secured, we selected our bicycles, and then took them for a brief test run to guarantee that everything was functioning properly. With all of our preparations now complete, we are ready to start our ride and enjoy the scenery.
As you cycle along the winding roads and trace the path of the holy river Balian, take in the legends that have become associated with it. It is said that in the 15th century, the powerful and healing priest Sakti Wawu Rauh arrived and found many people in the area ailing. He healed them by planting a wand upstream, and instructed them to bathe downstream, thus giving the river its name - Balian, meaning 'shaman' or 'healer'. As you journey through the area, marvel at the breathtaking beauty of the rolling hills, the lush foliage of the tropical forests, and the majestic terraced rice paddies. Further on, the landscape changes, and you will eventually glimpse the ocean in the distance. Before you reach the Balian beach, you will have the opportunity to pass through a small village. When you arrive at the beach, you will be able to swim in the cool waters, and take in the stunning beauty of the setting sun, and bask in the peaceful atmosphere of the area.
By the time we reach the end of our adventure, we can have lunch served on the famous Balian beach, with the sound of the waves breaking against the shore and the stars shining overhead.
To make this experience even better, you can also combine this trip with a surf lesson at one of Bali's most renowned surf breaks!
