Just don’t follow the herd.
Be like a bird.
Open you wings & fly high in the sky.
Today, we’ll ride towards the Bird Park. Along the way we’ll see ducks “billing” the paddies, white wing herrons air-gliding in flocks and chickens crossing your path. You can hear the farmers shouting Oooohooo ihhiii and waving their arms as some of the cheeky little birds dive in to steal the rice harvest. Creative and colourful scarecrows pop up through the paddies and move with the wind.
Your day begins with a pick up from your preferred location.
We start our day in Penestanan Kaja, which is famous for the cosy cafes and great coffee.
We’ll familiarise you with your mountain bike, hand out gloves and helmets, give a short safety talk and get you ready for an adventurous bike ride through a rarely seen part of Ubud.
You can leave any belongings you won't need while riding in our support van, which will be close by.
Before setting off on each Yatra we hold a short Balinese ritual at the temple nearby, and then set off on our adventure.
Down the road from village Penestanan you will pass the Butter-fly-eye Graffit. From there, you aren’t far away from the Lotus pond and the sign saying ‘ Have a good day’.
After Crossing the main road, we are away from the typical tourist areas, and instead we enter the rural backyards and narrow paths of Desa Ambangan.
Follow the village road & you’ll soon reach the big banyan tree that gives shade to temple Pura Bun Desa Tunon. Here we take a small break under the cooler shady branches and get an insight into the wisdom of Balinese culture.
We’ll continue our ride through narrow roads, crossing over tiny water channels. The big sign ‘ Selamat Jalan’ says farewell to the district of Gianyar as we enter district Badung.
Finally, the last part of our ride gives us an open view of rice fields and the life within. Those cheeky little birds that jump on the rice stems bring out the farmers to shout and wave them away while the white herons sail past you in flocks as you make your way. Watch the ducks, calmly working in harmony with the rice farmer, nourishing the rice fields as they peck around in the muddy paddies looking for a worm or crab to eat.
At the end of this ride we arrive at Bali Bird Park, an ornithologist's paradise. The park has been set up for the conservation and protection of endangered avian wildlife. With 250 species from several continents, you will see many birds that are difficult to locate in the wild, from South America, South Africa, Sumatra, Borneo, Java, Papua.
This ride is mainly downhill. There will be a few hills here and there but also plenty of flat or downhill slopes. The route takes mainly side tracks to rice fields and urban roads with the occasional short rough patch. Suits a wide range of ages and fitness-levels, as the ride can be designed with a variety of options. A support van is always nearby to assist you in case you prefer to step off or need a break. Suitable for families with children
