Heart Bali

In this tour you will get a taste of the island's diverse landscape as we bike from east to west through the valleys of the Heart of Bali.

1200K

Bali is a multifaceted gem of Indonesia. In the south, you can find the most vibrant and lively neighborhoods. To the east, the landscape is a picturesque mosaic of a thousand paddy fields running from the slopes of a holy mountain all the way to the shorelines. In the west, surfers line up to catch world-class breaks. Very few visitors go inland to visit the traditional Bali or get to experience the richness of the Balinese culture and the kindness of its people. We believe in the importance of seeing what connects us as humans no matter where we are from in the world, and that we meet heart to heart. That is why we love to offer this ride!

ITINERARY

  • MORNING

  • BIKE RIDE

  • AFTERNOON

  • Your day begins with a pick up from your preferred location.

We head north-east to the active volcano Mt. Batur, found inside the UNESCO Global Geopark in the Bangli district. This area is famous for being part of a unique natural phenomenon - the formation of double craters and a crescent-shaped 7 km long & 1,5 km wide volcanic lake. Travel time to our destination is around 1-1½ hours.

Once at the starting-point we’ll familiarize you with your mountain bike, hand out gloves and helmets, give a short safety talk and get you ready for an adventurous bike ride into a rarely seen part of Bali.

Don't forget to pay attention to the active stratovolcano and see if any smoke signals are coming from Mt. Batur!

You can leave any belongings you won't need while riding in our support van, which will be close by. Before setting off on each Yatra we hold a short Balinese ritual at the temple nearby, and then set off on our adventure.

  • Our first stop is at the Ulun Danu Temple, which is known as the most beautiful temple in Bali. This temple is dedicated to honoring the "Goddess Danu"- the Goddess of Water.

We ride along the outer ridge of the crater wall which surrounds the inner crater of the lake. Along the way, you can see the shifting colors of previous eruptions and flow of lava.

Situated so high up in the heart of Bali, the water from the lake flows into a number of major rivers in Bali, such as the Unda river in the south, the Suni river in the west and the Bayumala in the north. Today we will follow the Suni river and get a chance to see how the river water is divided to irrigate rice fields and support the Subak system, which is an ancient irrigation system that has been recognized as a world heritage by UNESCO.

We dip into the valley of Catur & keep going towards the heart of Bali. These beautiful valleys and peaks of the Catus district are unknown to many visitors, which gives us a chance to enjoy peace and tranquility amidst the tropical greenery. We will be passing scented orange fields, hills of Acacia trees and mountain farmlands filled with cabbage, chillies and tomatoes.

We stop at our friend's traditional house, to see bamboo and wood carving skills that are passed down through a long lineage of father to son.In this area you will also find the famous Kintamani dogs, which is native to Bali. Their heads are shaped like a wolf's and according to some, they are close relatives to the Australian Dingo.

We will pass Tukad Bangkung, a 360 m long bridge connecting two hills that, with its height of 71.14 m, is claimed to be the highest in Asia. From the bridge, we view how the winding river below carves out a panoramic valley with green hills on either side. Next, we enter the Marigold fields in the village Belok, also known as the Flower Garden Gemitir. Marigold flowers bloom all year long, which is important since they are used in all kinds of rituals in Bali.

  • We then reach a broad, fertile valley in Petang, surrounded by beautiful forests and mountains from where we soon come to the 17 hectares organic farmland of Bagus Agro. This farm provides a variety of healthy and organic fruits and vegetables which are distributed all over Bali - and of course, will be served for your lunch! It's not only the food that will be a treat at this lunch, as we will eat facing the spectacular view of Mt. Agung.

TRAVELLER PRAISE

The island sent many pleasant surprises my way, specially with the culture, the people and the food. All this was possible because of the guidance and support from the team at Yatra Tours, who have really personalized this entire experience for us from a spiritual & cultural engagement and logistical standpoint. They welcomed us into the community and offered us a holistic experience of the Balinese way of life. I want to thank Ingela, Bruce and Agung for being with us every step of the way and sharing their stories with us. The stories of the island of Bali are synonymous to me with the stories of the people that I met there.
I look forward to visiting and exploring this magical place again.
