We head north to the foothills of Mt. Batu Karu, which at 2275 metres is the second highest mountain in Bali. Here you’ll find our bikes waiting ready to start our ride.
We’ll familiarise you with your mountain bike, hand out gloves and helmets, give a short safety talk and get you ready for an adventurous bike ride into a rarely seen part of Bali.
You can leave any belongings you won't need while riding in our support van, which will be close by.
Before setting off on each Yatra we hold a short Balinese ritual at the temple nearby, and then set off on our adventure.
We make our preparations with the stunning backdrop of Mount Batu Karu. After successfully conquering a few hills we’ll ride through the bamboo forest, where the grey Macaques monkeys will check you out as you pass by.
Finally the jaw dropping valleys of Jatiluwih start to appear. The name says it all! Jati is derived from the name for 'charm' and Luwih means beautiful.
You will quickly realize why these cultural landscapes are protected by the UNESCO World Heritage as one of the wonders of the world, but also as a manifestation of the Tri Hita Karana philosophy. It is truly one of the most astonishing human achievements. Jatiluwih attracts photographers from all over the globe wishing to capture its picturesque rice fields. But, as you will see, no photo can compare with the real beauty of the place.
Once here, we'll enjoy the view as we have lunch and then, with renewed energy we'll prepare ourselves to pedal through the extraordinary rice terraces, discovering on the way the history of the area, certain culinary traditions and the complex water irrigation system unique to Bali called SUBAK.
In Desa Wong Aye Gede, you can see traditional Bali everyday life. The next village we come across is Batu Kambing, which means 'goat rock'. Here we will be treated to stunning landscapes of Bali's heartland, as the view takes us all the way down to the southern point of Bali.
A couple more hills to climb, and we reach the hot springs in Penatahan.
Here, a cool coconut water is waiting for you! After that the choice is yours, either soak your body in the mineral-rich hot springs or take a dip in the refreshing and cooling river. Why not dig your feet in the river bank and find the source of the heat?
