Menjangan Island

To the north and west of Bali we find an entirely different world — sparsely populated and protected natural reserves, with certain areas that are completely uninhabited by humans. All this reflects how Bali used to be.

Amidst lush green forests, a stunning mountain range, crystal clear blue water, and stretches of pristine beaches, this is what awaits you at the West Bali National Park. Home to over a hundred species of wildlife, the national park is best known as the sanctuary of the exotic white Bali Starling, an endemic and iconic bird of the island of the gods.

  • 1. Day One

We head towards Prapat Agung and will soon enter the West Bali National Park, which is located in the most north-westerly point of Bali. Here we'll pass through a particularly varied habitat.
You will find everything from rainforests, dry savannas, acacia scrubs and lowland forests, as well as montane forests in the higher region. There are also some pockets of dense mangrove forests.
At the harbour, fisherman Nyoman and his colourful outrigger are waiting to take us out on the Java Sea. Very soon we’ll be approaching Menjangan Island, which literally means ‘Island of the deers’.As Nyoman keeps the outrigger anchored, we are ready to spend a day with marine life at one of the most protected marine ecosystems in Indonesia. You can be snorkelling in crystal clear water amongst an abundance of rare, exotic, tropical corals and fish, or arrange a deeper dive.
After a day in the ocean, we head to our nest for the next 3 nights- Taman Sari, which is located in the laid back fishermen's village of Pemuteran.

  • 2. Day Two

We're awoken by the sound of the waves breaking on the shore of Pemuteran bay. After a gentle Yoga stretch on the sandy beach, breakfast is served at the pavilion. The morning is free to explore the little fishing village or just lie down on the massage table, close your eyes and hear the soothing sounds of the ocean. In the afternoon, we'll head over to BioRock, Pemuteran’s Coral reef Rehabilitation centre, which is the largest Centre using BioRock technology. Until today, a total of 115 bio rock structures have been installed at the bottom of the sea. At the end of the day, we'll grow some corals together, to give back to nature by offering a more positive footprint on our mother earth.

  • 3. Day Three

Another laid back morning in Pemuteran, where we start with a gentle and refreshing yoga class in the pavilion. After lunch, we head over to the ecologically sustainable resort Menjangan, where our friend Made is waiting to tell us about all the diverse fauna to be found in the National park. Arriving at the Blue Tower in the middle of lush forest we'll climb up, and on reaching the top will be rewarded by the amazing panoramic view. We'll enjoy our final dinner here at The Menjangan, the exclusive resort inside West Bali National Park.

  • 4. Day Four

Our last relaxing yoga before the retreat comes to a close. Time for getting packed up and saying our goodbyes. We will make the arrangements for your transport to the airport or preferred location.

TRAVELLER PRAISE

I participated in the `ROUND & ABOUT BALI’, waterfalls trek, bike rides and water temple and much more. I gave them all 5 stars! It was beautiful, thrilling and challenging. We learnt much about the history, religion, geography and living circumstances in Bali. Ingela and Bruce were engaged and very very helpful and took care of us in the best way.
