Don't forget to look across the water to glimpse over the Badung Strait to view the awe-inspiring sight of the highest and most sacred and revered mountain of Bali - Mt Gunung Agung

You can leave any belongings you won't need while riding in our support van, which will be close by.
Before setting off on each Yatra we hold a short Balinese ritual at the temple nearby, and then set off on our adventure.

  • Our morning ride starts with the golden rays of the rising sun and a cool breeze at Sanur Matahari Terbit.

We’ll ride along Sanur's splendid paved boardwalk which stretches for 8 km.

At Ketut’s warung we stop to enjoy a cool fresh coconut water, whilst in the distance you can see the traditional boats bobbing on the water. At low tide, you can see the fishermen with their cone-shaped woven hats silhouetted against the sparkling and serene ocean protected by the reef.

We stop at some of Bali’s most famous street stalls, where you get a glimpse of the richness of Balinese cuisine. Maybe you even feel inspired to try the spicy Lawar, made from roasted coconut marinated in honey. Just around the corner we find another well-known food stall, Warung Mak Beng, where another famous Balinese dish - Sop Ikan Kepala - is prepared. You will see for yourself the queue of visitors from all parts of Indonesia gathering to sample the warung's signature dish.

As we pass Sindhu beach we'll visit our friend and his little Turtle Conservation sanctuary . What started from one man caring for the turtles has today become a sanctuary where turtles can grow away from predators and danger to be set free once they are grown.

Not far to ride until we will enter the residence of artist A.J. Le Mayeur who came to Bali in 1937, and his wife Ni Polok; his heart was captured by the beautiful Legong dancer, and together they created a beautiful love story. From here we continue cycling until we reach Pantai Karang where we turn inland

We reach the top attraction- Blanjong Pillar - is famous for being the oldest historical artifact in Bali.Dating from 914 AD, the pillar is basically a stone inscription which was fashioned at the time of the first king of Bali, Sri Kesari Waemadewa.

Through the backroads, we reach the Mertasari Beach, which is filled with huge kites during the windy season. This iconic festival of kites fills the sky with all the colors of the rainbow, made into many different wonderful designs, keeping the ancient tradition of kite flying alive. Now, we are right at the border of the Balinese mangrove forest. This hidden gem in the middle of the hustle bustle of South Bali.

TRAVELLER PRAISE

I can’t say enough good things about YATRA Tours! I am not a fan of most tours when I travel because I think they tend to feel “touristy” and manufactured - but the group I traveled with did three different excursions/day trips with YATRA Tours during our time in Bali and never once did I feel like it was a tourist trap or anything like that! Instead I felt like I was getting a chance to see the real Bali - the side that most tourists don’t get to see - and it was MAGICAL! I would recommend Ingela and Bruce to anyone I know - my only complaint is we didn’t stay in Bali longer and get to know them better!
