Your day begins with a pick up from your preferred location.
We head north-east to the active sacred volcano Mt. Batur, found inside the UNESCO Global Geopark, district of Bangli. This area is famous for the unique natural phenomenon - the formation of double craters and a crescent-shaped 7 km long & 1,5 km wide volcanic lake.
Travel time to our destination is around 1-1½ hours.
Once at the starting-point we’ll familiarize you with your mountain bike, hand out gloves and helmets, give a short safety talk and get you ready for an adventurous crater bike ride into a rarely seen part of Bali.
Don't forget to pay attention to the active stratovolcano and see if any smoke signals are coming from Mt. Batur!
You can leave any belongings you won't need in the car while riding.
Before setting off on each Yatra we hold a short Balinese ritual at the temple nearby, and then set off on our adventure. -
We will land on a scenic spot, at the entrance of the sacred temple Pura Ulun Danuh. This is a pilgrimage place for Hindus in Bali, especially during full and new moon.
Here, gather devotees to make special offerings and to be blessed with fertile soil and prosperity. Take a couple of steps, and you stand in front of the icon of lake Batur, a 15 meter high statue, built from a solid rock on the edge of lake, of Devi Danuh, the Goddess of lakes and water. After a Balinese ritual, we get ready for a day to be spent inside the crater.
Following the trails, we ride through a remote rugged lava valley, and that’s where you will experience the deep silence from inside the crater, whilst being surrounded by the majestic mountains.
Across lake Batur you can see the famous Terunyan village and community. This is, where Agama Hindu - also called animism, (or for some known as Bali Aga or Bali Mulia),live. Unlike most Hindu in Bali, who burn the corpses ( cremation) in the Ngben ceremony, the Terunyan people place the corpse on the ground and fence it off with woven bamboo.
We make a visit to our friend Pande, who will unfold the special history and traditions of the Songan. You will also hear about the legends, how Mount Batur, the peak of Mount Meru, was displaced by the Gods & Goddesses to make an abode for the Goddess Danu. We leave Pande and head to the small and traditional village Songan as we pass the small, wiggly and narrow streets.
The next 5-10 km mix of natural trails and doubletracks showcase the jagged volcanic formations and moss covered lava rocks. A series of uphill trails reward riders with fine views of Lake Batur and the surrounding countryside, as well as plenty of thrilling descents on the way back down. -
At the end of the ride, we move up to the outer caldera. (located 1031 m.a.s). Here, lunch is waiting at Lake View restaurant, where you will enjoy lunch with a panoramic view overlooking the shifting shades of natural colors.
We will return to your hotel or place of preference sometime between 4 and 5 pm.
